Yesterday (Tuesday) was a very pleasant sea day and, cruising at 20 knots up the St Lawrence Seaway, it was also the culmination of many hours of work by some passengers. It was the day for the “build a ship” regatta!
The crowds gathered on the rear deck to see the works of art ……..
…… so lovingly constructed over the last couple of weeks.
Each craft was loaded with “passengers” (six cans of ginger beer!) and, not only did they all survive their launchings but also a tsunami test given by entertainments officer “fat belly” Keith (blue dressing gown on the right) who dive bombed each vessel in turn. Every one was a winner!
Later on we met up with some cruise friends, for a splendid evening – firstly for drinks in the Crow’s Nest ………
……. and then a table for eight in the dining room. Chris, Paul, Jill, Andrew, (Mangesh our waiter), Doug, Bill, Sandra and James (who’s doing his impression of Bruce Forsyth!) none of us sitting next to our partners by the way, had a super time. After that it was on to the theatre for a first class show by the Headliners Theatre Company.
Tired and back “home” in the cabin and we are greeted by the skills of our cabin steward Francisco.
This morning, on our approach to Quebec, we awoke to a very wet and misty start to the day …….
…. and we thought we might be unlucky and not see the fantastic colours of “the fall” which we’d been so looking forward to.
The shipping lane on the Quebec approach is narrow so ships get quite close when passing each other!
Luckily the weather improved dramatically as the morning wore on and the colours of the trees began to emerge from the mist.
The tree lined sides of the river are quite stunning ……
……. and really have to be seen first hand.
A couple of days ago we had our photo taken with the entire cast of the Headliners Theatre Company. We’re getting to know some of them quite well – they’re a very talented bunch indeed and so friendly. (apologies for a photo of a photo!)
